Hello lovelies! It has been a while. Well, the thing is I have been working on a new novel titled, ‘My trafficked love’. The novel is centered on the crime of of human trafficking and that is why we are going to discuss human trafficking today.
Human trafficking is the third largest crime industry in the world following drug dealing and arms trafficking. It can happen in any community and to anyone regardless of age, race, gender and nationality. Human trafficking is the trade of human beings for the purpose of forced labor, commercial sex exploitation and sex slavery. Human trafficking can also occur for purposes of acts of forced marriages and surrogacy. In many cases, traffickers usually resort to violence, manipulation or false promises of well-paying jobs or romantic relationships to lure victims into trafficking situations.
They use victims’ weaknesses to lure them into their traps. These weaknesses may include psychological or emotional vulnerability, financial hardship; lack of social safety, natural disasters and political instability. Hence, millions of men, women and children are trafficked worldwide every year. As such, this vice is a crime as it violates the victims’ right because trafficked people are held against their will.
According to statistics from the International Labour Organization (ILO), forced labour alone generates an estimated $150 billion in profits per year since 2014. Additionally, the ILO records of 2012 shows that the organization estimated that 21 million victims are trapped in modern-day slavery of which 14.2 million of these victims summing up to 68% were exploited for labour; 4.5 million ; a total of 22% were sexually exploited, and 2.2 million ; summing up to 10% were exploited in state-imposed forced labour. The International Labour Organization has reported that child workers, minorities, and irregular migrants are at considerable risk of more extreme forms of exploitation. Statistics shows that over half of the world’s 215 million young workers are observed to be in hazardous sectors, including forced sex work and forced street begging.
The trauma caused by the traffickers can be so great that victims usually fail to identify themselves as victims. This hinders them from asking for help even in highly public settings. Furthermore, it has been ruled that elements like language barriers and fear play a pivotal role in inhibiting victims from seeking help, making human trafficking prevalent.
As such, ‘My trafficked Love’ is a novel that is useful in combating human trafficking in that it highlights how traffickers play in order to capture beautiful girls and women for purposes of forced labour and commercial sex work. In this book, you will learn about the gimmicks of traffickers including false promises of relationships, job offers in the modeling and performing arts industries and many more in order to coerce victims.
We ought to work together as a community in our various countries and as the world a large to combat human trafficking and save any lives from being ruined; and writing ‘my trafficked love’ is my own way of spreading awareness on the vice.
